US:CDMX Transcultural Exchange

For over thirteen years, the National Association of Latino Arts and Cultures and Southwest Airlines have been working in partnership to promote, cultivate and advance Latinx arts and cultures in the U.S. and across borders.  Our partnership and collaboration generated a convening  The US:CDMX Transcultural Exchange, held on August 29-30 2018, was an opportunity for artists and industry leaders from the US and Mexico to discuss best practices for inclusivity, agency and innovation through arts and culture.

The US delegation was comprised of arts sector leaders in various disciplines, fields of expertise and from various regions and backgrounds. Additionally, NALAC  strategically brought together the NALAC Leadership Summit Planning Committee with arts leaders in Mexico City in an effort to engage them in a process to develop shared opportunities for leadership development and artistic collaboration through the NALAC Leadership Summit.

The Summit planning committee engaged directly with an artist/fashion designer Carla Fernandez, and other artist and designers at her studio in Mexico City. Over 25 arts leaders from Mexico attended an evening reception at the Gran Hotel Ciudad de Mexico overlooking Zócalo Square.  The event included panel presentations from guest speakers to strengthen artistic and economic exchanges among arts communities in the United States and Mexico.  The Transcultrual Exchance culminated the next morning with a site visit to Pocha House/ Otros Dreams En Acción.
