Visiones

The Visiones 2-DVD set features inspiring profiles of 24 groundbreaking Latino artists, including: Lydia Mendoza, Guillermo Gomez Peña, Lalo Alcaraz, Piri Tomas, El Teatro Campesino, Miriam Colon, Judy Baca, Selena and more!

Visiones: Latino Art and Culture is an award-winning PBS series that documents the broad scope and diversity of Latino artistic and cultural expression through inspiring profiles of 24 artistic innovators. Visiones was broadcast nationally on PBS in 2004 to over 100 million households in
the United States and received the Imagen Award for Best Documentary in 2005.

The Visiones Latino Artistic Expression Educational Curriculum was developed in 2006 to maximize the educational potential of the Visiones series and focuses on four artistic disciplines: visual arts, dance, music and theatre. In partnership with Target, the curriculum was distributed in 2006 to over 30,000 schools across the country during Hispanic Heritage Month.

Created in conjunction with the Intercultural Development Research Association (IDRA), the Visiones curriculum materials include a Resource Guide, Lesson Plans, Activities, a Glossary and a Did You Know? supplement.  The lessons meet all objectives of the National Curriculum Standards. All activities and content may be adapted for appropriate use with students of all ages.

The goal of the Visiones arts and culture series and educational curriculum is to encourage and inspire students and instructors to participate in the arts, explore cultural and historical accomplishments in the Latino arts field and promote critical thinking and creativity.

The Visiones 2-DVD set and companion Latino Artistic Expression Educational Curriculum deliver in-depth profiles of 24 artists and organizations working in a broad range of disciplines, promote understanding and appreciation for the scope, history and diversity of Latino artistic and cultural expression and are valuable assets to any collection or classroom.
