Request for Qualifications – Public Art for Reston’s Fairway Drive Underpass
Public Art Reston seeks a regional artist or artist-led team to develop site-specific artwork to enhance the exterior and interior walls of the Fairway Drive underpass. This community infrastructure links residential areas with a pool, a community center, and the historic Lake Anne Village Center. It is also across from Lake Anne Elementary School, a Title 1 school.
As a Biophilic City, Reston is committed to offsetting its carbon footprint and facilitating multi-modal transportation options. Public art at underpasses fully aligns with this goal by inspiring active use of this infrastructure that connects walking and cycling paths under roadways.
This project is also an opportunity for arts education and cultural enrichment. The artist or artist-led team will directly engage with community stakeholders to develop the concept of the artwork including workshops with students at Lake Anne Elementary School.
