Finance and Administration Associate

The House Theatre of Chicago seeks a Finance and Administration Associate to ensure fiscal responsibility, manage office and facility administration and support the company’s HR function. An excellent opportunity for an early-career arts administrator to grow with one of Chicago’s most innovative theatre companies as The House moves into a brand new headquarters that will house all off-stage operations under one roof. 

This full-time, exempt position reports to the Managing Director.

Duties and Responsibilities:


  • Manage and process AP/AR and general accounting using Quickbooks. 
  • Complete monthly reconciliations of revenues and expenses with marketing, development and production departments. 
  • Project operating cash flows and provide recommendations to the Managing Director. 
  • Lead and manage yearly audit process. 
  • Organize financial results to be reported to the Executive Committee and Board of Directors. 
  • Ongoing improvement of accounting controls and processes based on industry best practices. 
  • Support the annual budgeting process through recapping the historical year, providing analysis and discussing with department heads for future planning. 
  • Work with production department to calculate artist royalties and settlements for The House productions. 
  • Monitor company’s line of credit. 

Human Resources: 

  • Process employee payroll. 
  • Coordinate employee benefits. 
  • Administer HR record keeping.
  • Support administration of employee and contractor HR concerns. 

Additional Administrative Duties: 

  • Coordinate operations by addressing the functional and logistical needs of the organization: IT and phone support, building security, insurance, office supply and general administration. 
  • Support the administration of ancillary streams of earned revenue, including rehearsal room and scene shop rentals, retail and other contracted work. 


  • Experience using accounting software (specifically Quickbooks), and proficiency in Microsoft Excel and the Google Suite. 
  • Experience with Total Info (EasyWare) is preferred, but not required. 
  • A general understanding or sincere interest in nonprofit theatre and appreciation for the performing arts is vital. 
  • Must have a strong ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment, excellent attention to detail, good communications skills, and a sense of humor.
