Community Outreach Specialist

The Design School is embarking on an exciting ‘redesign’ process – building the next great American design school at the New American University, a school that is relevant, equitable and collaborative.  Reporting to the Director, this role will play an essential part in that process. Over the next year, the school will embark on a strategic planning process that will engage the local community, country and world in defining what a design school in the future will look like.

The community outreach specialist will assist the Director of the School in managing that process with deep engagement of the design community locally, nationally and globally.  In addition, this role will assist in organizing the School’s outward facing relationship with alumni, community partners, corporations and individuals, and supporting faculty and students in their work.  The Design School faculty work on a variety of issues – from addressing the future of the Rio Salado in Metropolitan Phoenix to partnering with Google on increasing human satisfaction to working with communities across the globe to address critical issues of sustainability.

The Community Outreach Specialist will also manage communications, including working with the University’s and Institute’s central communications offices on press releases, newsletters and social media for the School through the strategic planning process and beyond.  This job is a unique opportunity to join a community of innovative faculty, students, alumni, professional designers and staff as they create a laboratory for the future of the design field. This position which will coordinate all of our outwardly facing relationships, and will be essential for the success of our efforts going forward, especially during this strategic planning year.

I hope you’ll join us in the conversation about the future of the school (much more on that soon)!
