Latinx Summit Workshops

We invite the field to weave this gathering with us!
We are calling everyone to convene with us virtually at the NALAC National Latinx Summit on September 30 to October 2, 2021. Let’s engage our imaginations, meet the call of the moment, and assert our collective strength.

Propose a space for attendees to gather, talk, learn, perform, imagine. The Summit is entirely built on our imaginations. Please submit your proposal by Friday, June 18, 2021. Presenters and performers of sessions and workshops will receive honoraria.

The goals of the summit – officially themed Manos a la Obra – are to bring together our community of Latinx artists, cultural workers and organizations of all generations to catalyze peer networking and professional networks; to deepen intergenerational engagement for the exchange of ideas and cultural practices; to uplift stories of pandemic cultural resiliency and artistic adaptation; and to advance research toward a “for us by us” cultural policy agenda that supports the needs of the field, influence trends, and mobilize communities.

The Summit format will be a combination of interactive labs, workshops, panels, site visits, performances, and showcases. With an eye towards theme-based focused groups, creative disciplines, and career peer mentorship, we will organize sessions via three lines of inquiry: Tactical Knowledge, Social Strategy and Creative Practice.

We define the themes as:

Tactical Knowledge means the specific tactics we can use, individually and collectively as institutions to push our work and voices to the forefront. Topics include but are not limited to alternative financial models, fundraising, philanthropy, artist career building, arts advocacy, entrepreneurship and leadership.

Social Strategy means the strategy or analysis needed to provide frameworks for our actions. Such topics include but are not limited to diversity, equity, inclusion, intersectionality, bridge, radical imagination, antiracism, Latinidades, intergenerationality, activism and disruption.

Creative Practice offers a moment to synthesize our tactical knowledge and social strategy. Topics might include but are not limited to discipline-based labs or sessions organized around specific artistic disciplines, up to your own imagination.

The Submission deadline Friday, June 18, 2021, has passed.
Gracias y nos vemos pronto!
