Samantha Cabrera Friend is a visual journalist from Chicago who uses photography and writing to explore local histories, traditions, and sociopolitical issues affecting female-based communities on a global scale. She currently curates an open source, visual community archive on repairing the undocumented history of the tradition of the quinceañera and exploring the vast photographic, social, and cultural impacts the tradition has had in shaping the American girlhood narrative. In all projects today, she continues to work towards illuminating new paths of research and community around utilizing creative mediums to rewrite one’s narrative history.
