Project Capoeira

To support operations and artist fees for our programs at Project Capoeira, an organization promoting and teaching Brazilian arts and providing services for the 30,000 Brazilians in the Philadelphia area. Project Capoeira annually teaches capoeira and Brazilian dance classes for around 5,000 kids and adults and organizes city-wide free events celebrating Brazilian culture for around 25,000 people. We also collaborate with the Brazilian Consulate, City of Philadelphia, museums, schools and community centers to provide services for the Brazilian community. We organize the Brazilian flag raising, festival celebrating Brazil’s Independence Day, and Team Brazil for Philadelphia’s International Unity Cup soccer tournament. Project Capoeira promotes intercultural community growth around Philadelphia through artistic performances and classes for the public and social outreach for Brazilians. We build confidence and positive citizenship among youth and adults and preserve and share Capoeira, a Brazilian art. We encourage pride in the roots of Philadelphia’s immigrant and minority communities, and celebrate the sames themes of freedom and equality that reverberate throughout Philadelphia’s history.
