The Northern California premiere of Frida by Robert Xavier Rodríguez
To support Opera Cultura’s Northern California premiere of Robert Xavier Rodríguez’s bilingual opera Frida at the Mexican Heritage Theater—School of Arts and Culture in San Jose, CA. The opera is based on the life of iconic Mexican painter Frida Kahlo and incorporates musical idioms from authentic Mexican folk traditions. Opera Cultura will present three performances as part of the premiere in May 2020. Free community engagement events will include a visual arts workshop at the HUB (a resource center for foster youth in San Jose), forum discussions, and preview performances.
