Nelda Ruiz is a community organizer/cultural worker from the Sonoran borderlands. Nelda is passionate about environmental/social justice,making sustainability accessible,building community capacity throughout the south side of Tucson. Since 2010, she’s been an organizer with Tierra Y Libertad, working to build bridges to connect residents of marginalized communities to the resources they need to foster the health, personal growth, and well-being of their families. In 2017, Nelda joined the team at the Southwest Folklife Alliance, where she serves as program coordinator managing community based ethnographic documentation projects that highlight the diverse cultures and traditional knowledge in southern Arizona’s indigenous, Mexicano/Chicano communities.
