Born and raised in Mexico City, Monica has always had a passion for acting. In 1989, she began her formal theater studies at INBAC in Cuernavaca, Morelos, Mexico, where she trained for three years.
In 1995, Monica moved to Memphis, Tennessee, and by 1999, she directed the Spanish-language Christmas plays and a kids’ play with a group of dedicated volunteers.
In 2005, she created the beloved bilingual clown character “Burbujita,” bringing laughter and cultural connection to families in both Spanish and English. Monica participated in the first Spanish-language presentation of “The Vagina Monologues” in Memphis in 2010.
That same year, alongside Giovana Lopez and Sandra Figueroa, she co-founded and revived the theater group now known as Cazateatro Bilingual Theater Group, where she serves as Artistic Director. She has attended the Tennessee Arts Academy for three years and completed the “Teaching Artist Training Program” through the Orpheum Theatre. Monica has also collaborated with Friends of George’s and the Women’s Theater Festival. With more than 35 productions to her name, Monica believes deeply in the power of the performing arts to build bridges across cultures, foster empathy, and create community.
