Miriam Padilla Vargas

Dr. Miriam Padilla Vargas, Executive Director of Bomba Marilé, was born in Rio Piedras, Puerto Rico. Dr. Padilla received her medical degree from Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland, Ohio. She finished her Internal Medicine Residency and Endocrinology Fellowship at the University of Southern California in Los Angeles. Dr. Padilla worked in the nation’s largest free clinic, Venice Family Clinic, for seven years before moving to Utah in 2015. She is currently the Medical Director of the Lifestyle Medicine and Wellness Center in Provo, UT and works as a general endocrinologist through Intermountain Health. In November 2017, Miriam Padilla became one of the founding members of Bomba Marilé. Bomba Marilé strives to share Afro-Puerto Rican bomba music, history, and culture through interactive and educational events that create a sense of community. Dr. Padilla was instrumental in making Bomba Marilé a nonprofit organization in 2022. Dr. Miriam Padilla has been honored to receive multiple recognitions for her work as a community organizer, including the WESTAF BIPOC Fund, the Utah Arts Fellowship Grant, Special Congressional Recognition, Salt Lake County Commission Recognition, and more. Miriam is proud to represent her traditions and is grateful for those who support the cultural arts.
