Mel “Melo” Dominguez is a Los Angeles-born artist and muralist who has called Tucson home since 2007. Rooted in Chicano/a culture and community activism, his artistic practice explores cultural identity, political and social issues, and environmental concerns.
Mel’s commitment to community-based art began at Self Help Graphics & Art in East Los Angeles, where he was a Getty intern and later served as Summer Youth Coordinator. In this role, he led a community mural project with neighborhood youth, creating opportunities for young people to express their experiences, culture, and perspectives through art.
Since relocating to Tucson, Mel has continued to use art as a tool for connection, advocacy, and positive change. His murals and creative work reflect a deep belief in the power of art to amplify community voices, preserve cultural stories, and inspire dialogue.
Through creativity and activism, Mel strives to create work that is visually impactful, socially engaged, and deeply connected to the communities he serves.
