Y no se lo tragó la tierra / And the Earth Did Not Devour Him
To support the creation of a bilingual stage adaptation of Tomás Rivera’s iconic novel, “Y no se lo tragó la tierra” by José Rubén De León. Through the eyes of a young boy, Rivera’s Chicano masterpiece recounts the experiences of a Mexican-American community. Forced to leave their home in search of work, the boy must forge his identity in the face of exploitation, alienation and disease. The world premiere of the stage adaptation will introduce audiences of all ages to Rivera’s deep sympathy and respect for humanity, especially for the migrant workers from whom he drew his inspiration to write and work.
