Jesús Varela has a background in development and expansion of community arts programming and aims to champion the arts through his work in media and broadcasting, artist management and publicity, and event production. Prior to joining the Emma S. Barrientos Mexican American Cultural Center in Austin, TX as the Culture and Arts Education Coordinator, Jesús worked for over a decade in San Francisco, CA on program development, project management, and other place-based advocacy projects. A central goal throughout his career has been to work across private and public sectors to defend, foster, and advocate for the vitality of underserved communities.
