Caliban’s Voice

To support Caliban’s Voices, a large scale, community-based, site-specific art project that will take place in Edge Zones’ space in Miami’s Allapattah neighborhood. Created over a period of six months by ten – to – twelve artists collaborating through an ongoing residency process, Caliban’s Voices will be a multi-disciplinary work featuring video, photography, sound art, installation, sculpture, and performance to illuminate the history and culture of migrant workers in Miami, in particular Dominicans and Haitians who came to Florida to work on sugar plantations. Capitalizing on the new Edge Zones venue, which opens onto the surrounding neighborhood, Caliban’s Voices uses Miami’s historically Dominican Allapattah neighborhood as an integral part of the piece, engaging with audiences young and old, locals and tourists, and community stakeholders to transform the physical space and its surrounding areas into an organic, interactive work of art.
