Chavalxs
Artist Alejandra Aragon’s “Chavalxs” is an experimental photography project looking to reflect on the identity of youth on both sides of the U.S./Mexico border. From the Sierra of Chihuahua to the Rocky Mountains of Colorado, young Mexicans and Mexican-Americans are redefining identity beyond gender norms and geopolitical boundaries. Migration is reversed, some are returning from the US to the towns their ancestors escaped. Others still dream of going to the US as they struggle to be themselves in the harsh conditions of Mexico’s reality. For this generation the internet blurs borders and provides a space of resistance.
