INTEMPO provides high-quality music education and youth-development services to low-income children predominantly from Latino immigrant or first-generation backgrounds who are underrepresented in the arts, helping them build critical emotional, cognitive, and behavioral skills, and empowering them to leverage these skills to achieve life success. Our bilingual cross-cultural approach breaks down barriers that keep Latino children from participating in music education, supports their musical interests, and reverses negative patterns that hold them back from realizing their potential. Our use of non-Western repertoire and instrumentation celebrates and preserves Latino culture, ensuring that it maintains a prominent place in our community’s arts landscape.
