María de la Rosa, of Sal Si Puedes (Eastside San José), California, credits homemade tortillas, making/breaking piñatas, guadalupana and misa songs, waking up to mañanitas, and dancing on her dad’s toes at wedding receptions as origins of her artistic inspiration and respect and love of heritage arts. Maria studies and collaborates with master artists from Mexico and has performed throughout California, in Hawaii and Mexico, has received several national awards and recognition developing works that reflect her cultural heritage, acknowledge and uplift communities and promote visionary re-considerations of artistic cultural traditions.
