Pay: $375 Weekly Stipend
Fall Cohort: August 22-December 18, 2022
(Holiday days off: 9/5, 11/24-25)
Spring Cohort: January 3-May 14, 2023
(Holiday days off: 1/16, 4/9)

– Video 1: Includes two contrasting, contemporary monologues and 16 bars of a musical theatre song to be sung A Capella. The audition should be no longer than three minutes total.
If including a song in your audition, you may use the accompaniment and songs provided on our website or prepare a piece of your choice with your own accompaniment.
– Video 2: Teach Me Something exercise: This exercise is designed to gauge your current level of teaching ability, which is a significant component of the internship. Please prepare to teach anything you like in a three-minute span. It doesn’t have to be theatre-related, and it cannot incorporate anyone else.

The Bruce E. Coyle Acting and Education Internship program is designed to immerse emerging artists interested in building a sustainable career as working actors, community, and teaching artists into a realistic experience environment. In a changing industry landscape, we believe that actors must have a diverse portfolio of work for sustainability. Through this program, interns will develop skills as an actor and in teaching artistry and community engagement. The program is intensive, simulating the multi-tasking required of working artists, balancing performance, teaching, and supplemental work simultaneously.
As actors, interns will experience rehearsing and performing in various performance mediums, including Outreach Tour, Off the Grid immersive experiences, and community performances. As part of the Off the Grid series, interns will also develop material and learn how to self-produce. In 2022-2023, Main Stage opportunities will be limited due to the building transition caused by our capital project. Acting opportunities will be provided through our “Off the Grid” Outreach Tour and potentially through our new play development program.
As teaching artists, interns will be trained to teach in various classroom formats, including drama integration in academic classrooms, after-school enrichment classes, and specialties. Throughout the experience, interns will develop and prepare lesson plans and curricula, work with a wide range of ages and communities, and advance solo teaching.
As members of the engagement team, interns will learn how to facilitate post-show and community discussions, coordinate community events and develop community partnerships. In addition, interns will learn practical community engagement methodology that includes civic, audience, and artistic engagement practices.
Through practical application, interns will develop administrative skills, including email and phone communication, project and time management, data entry, planning, and implementation. We believe that being a working artist is to be self-employed. Therefore, these skills will translate to additional work opportunities for managing a freelance career.
Mentorship is at the foundation of this program. Professional development workshops provide insight into practical opportunities for applying skills as an actor in different mediums and industries and engagement with working artists. Working with the Director of Artistic Engagement, each intern will identify areas of interest and growth at the beginning of the program and work together throughout the experience to monitor the progression. By the end of the program, interns will have an action plan for career next steps, increased skills as a performer, teaching artist, community practitioner, and administrator.

Work Environment and Physical Demands:
• The position is located in various locations, including a climate-controlled office, touring schools and community venues, and teaching at various schools.
• Position requires a minimum amount of external activity but will require local travel to other worksites and venues.
• Light lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling of supplies, files, etc.: generally, up to 10 lbs. and occasionally up to 25 lbs.
• Occasional stooping, kneeling, crouching.
• Ability to speak clearly to and hear/listen to employees/clients via phone or in person.
