A National Virtual Altar
In a Time of Healing: Ofrendas of Remembrance calls in our communities, partners, friends and organizations to collectively heal through the cultural and artistic practice of altar making. It is through memory that we call in the love of our family members, friends, and community members—our cherished dead—whose lives we have lost over the recent past to COVID, social injustice and heartbreak. This enormous loss, of both life and wellness, calls us to our cultural and sacred rituals that allow us to mourn and grieve. We honor our loved ones who have passed through an interactive virtual altar with ofrendas that act as conduits through which our collective ceremony of memory and grief, can be allowed pause, intentionality and processing.
In a Time of Healing is a virtual altar concept by artist and master altar maker, Amalia Mesa-Bains and arts and culture specialist, Evonne Gallardo, and is meant to be shared widely across our national communities. We are asking individuals, arts and service organizations and all communities to participate by posting, sharing and integrating this as a FREE content resource for your Día de los Muertos virtual events, websites, social media outlets and celebrations.
