EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR JOB DESCRIPTION
Class Title: Executive Director
EEO Category: Administrative
Salary: $45,000 -$50,000; commensurate with experience
Exempt Status: Full Time Exempt, with flexible schedule (some nights and weekends required)
The Executive Director (ED) shall spend 100% of his/her time creating, managing, supporting, and overseeing artistic and cultural activities on behalf of the Conjunto Heritage Taller. To that end, the ED is responsible for overseeing the day-to-day operations of Conjunto Heritage Taller (CHT) in accordance with the mission statement, strategic plan goals, and Board direction; for the implementation of all CHT programs as well as the Board-approved development plan to raise funds that support the organization’s operations and programs. The ED will provide guidance, direction, and leadership as supervisor to all staff, volunteers, and participants.
The ED shall be the primary spokesperson for CHT and will represent the organization at community events, business meetings, public forums, and in media interviews where necessary. The ED shall have the authority to sign contracts and other business documents on behalf of Conjunto Heritage Taller.
The ED reports directly to the Board of Directors.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
● Oversee day-to-day operations, including fiscal, operational, and program management.
● Provide guidance, leadership, and direction to staff, volunteers, and participants.
● Supervise, support, and empower the coordinators of all current and future CHT programs.
● Maintain a work environment that attracts, maintains, and motivates a diverse staff of top-quality people
● Serve as the primary voice of CHT in communicating the organization’s mission, goals, and accomplishments.
● Project a positive image of CHT to funders, artists/musicians, community members, and the public at large.
● Establish collaborative relationships with partnering community organizations to develop and implement activities and projects of mutual interest.
● Report to and work closely with the Board of Directors in policy decisions, fundraising and strategic planning and implementation.
● Develop and maintain sound financial practices, including the organization of financial records, reports, and preparation of budgets to ensure adequate funds are available to carry out the work of the organization.
● Together with the Board develop and implement a fundraising plan, research sources of funding and identify and develop relationships with funders that will support CHT’s mission to establish a balance of fiscal stability and growth.
● Principal Grant Writer for CHT. Responsible for researching potential grants, writing grant proposals and budgets, submitting grant applications by designated deadlines, managing and reporting on all grants and/or contracts awarded.
● Oversee the planning, coordination, staffing support, documentation, and audience development for CHT sponsored events and programming, and manage CHT’s invitations to participate/perform at community events and celebrations, ensuring that all necessary requirements are taken care of before, during and after the event.
● Identify and facilitate training and appropriate support to CHT personnel to help them better accomplish their duties and responsibilities.
● Maintaining employment and administrative policies and procedures for all functions and for the day-to-day operation.
● Ensure that job descriptions are developed, that regular performance evaluations are held, and that sound human resource practices are in place.
● Oversee marketing and other communications efforts, including social/digital media and press releases.
● Review and approve contracts for services.
● Other duties as appropriate.
Qualifications & Experience:
● Self-motivated and strong organizational abilities including planning, delegating, program development and task facilitation
● Expressed value for the history, culture, traditions, and significance these represent for the community that CHT serves.
● Ability to articulate a compelling creative vision for music and cultural programming.
● Motivated to work in a multicultural environment.
● Ability to work well with others, multi-task, and problem-solve.
● High-level communication skills, oral and written, in English.
● Bilingual (English and Spanish), written and spoken fluency strongly preferred
● Extensive knowledge in grant writing, grant mining, and grant management
● Knowledge of nonprofit organization structure, culture, and management
● Transparent and high integrity leadership
● Proficiency in financial spreadsheets and accounting, ability to use a personal computer and other office equipment,
● Knowledge and skill to work with various software applications, and the ability to adapt to future utilized platforms.
● Familiarity with Internet-based research methods and tools.
• College Degree, non-profit management certification, or 4 years of administrative supervisory-level experience.
• Related experience in non-profit organization required.
• Experience and/or training in grant reporting to funders, especially for governmental contracts/grants
