Rebecca Basaure is a Bolivian-American award-winning director and cinematographer. Born in La Paz, Bolivia, and raised by an American mother and a Bolivian father, her background has given her ample American and Latino influences. Rebecca has experience in both narrative and documentary films and enjoys experimenting with different mediums, merging art and science to further explore humanity’s complex relationship with nature. She is a certified scuba diver and an underwater cinematographer. Today she works as a Los Angeles-based freelance cinematographer and is a member of the IATSE Local 600 Cinematographers Guild.
Rebecca shot three episodes for Netflix’s documentary series Street Food which was released in 2022. Her 2021 film Refugio has been selected by thirteen festivals and won four awards, including Best Documentary Short at the Independent Shorts Awards Film Festival and Best Director Short Documentary at the Berlin Indie Film Festival.
