NORC Now: Latino Arts Organizations Serve as Civic Infrastructure, Survey Finds

A new article from NORC de la Universidad de Chicago highlights the recent research report and data collected in partnership with NALAC. A survey of 493 Latinx/é arts and culture organizations across the United States, including Puerto Rico, examines the sector’s reach and the resource constraints holding it back.

Since 2020, 74% of Latinx/é arts and culture organizations have seen increased demand for programming and services, with nearly half (48%) saying limited resources and other challenges kept them from fully meeting demand, and 78% citing funding or cash flow as their leading operational challenge.

The research finds that Latinx/é arts organizations play a vital role in their communities, anchoring cultural life in neighborhoods across the country and functioning as civic infrastructure that connects communities to youth development, health, and immigration services.
