SAN ANTONIO, TX, March 31, 2026 – The Asociación Nacional de Artes y Culturas Latinas (NALAC) announces the release of their research report, “A Mirror and a Map: Nurturing Organizational Realities and Navigating Change among Latinx/é Arts and Culture Organizations,” and an accompanying website. From insight to implementation, NALAC’s new research, toolkit, and website equip arts and cultural leaders to shape what comes next.

“NALAC has dedicated over two years to the development of ‘A Mirror and a Map’ research report, website, and toolkit. We are grateful to The Wallace Foundation and NORC at the University of Chicago, whose support made this project possible,” said NALAC CEO and President Mari Hernandez. “Most importantly, we would like to thank those who shared their work, experiences, and voices to help guide this research, which recognizes the realities of Latinx/é arts and culture organizations.”

The research report was developed from responses to the NALAC 2024 National Latinx/é Arts and Culture Survey, which collected data from 493 unique Latinx/é arts and culture organizations across the U.S., including Puerto Rico.

The report addresses a critical gap by providing a comprehensive view of post-2020 realities that Latinx/é organizations face related to capacity, programs, finances, and sustainability, while also providing insights that can empower advocacy efforts, inform funding strategies, and influence policy decisions that impact arts communities. Survey responses highlight both the strengths of and challenges faced by the Latinx/é arts and culture field; these insights directly guided the development of the report, website, and toolkit.

“The survey results, narrative report, and interactive website vividly paint the post-2020 landscape of Latinx/é arts and culture organizations. Data and analysis render how these orgs navigate shifting terrain, as well as systemic barriers they encounter,” shared NALAC Director of Programs Cat Rodríguez. “Latinx/é arts leaders and artists, we hope that you will find these interactive and downloadable resources handy in putting data to your experiences and locating yourself within a larger panorama. For funders, arts advocates, policymakers, and beyond, this publicly accessible information provides both a nuanced view from within while highlighting poignant opportunities to collaborate with and meet the needs of our sector.”

The research report was utilized to create a corresponding website which houses interactive data and a resource toolkit designed to serve as both a mirror and a map: a mirror that reflects the stories, realities, and voices of Latinx/é arts and culture workers and organizations and a map that offers data, tools, and resources to help guide decision-makers as they work to strengthen infrastructure, expand opportunities, advocate for support, and build collaboration.
