Committee for Children is on a mission to ensure that children everywhere can thrive. Since 1979, we’ve championed the cause of educating the whole child through advocacy, leadership in the field, and programs in social-emotional learning (SEL) and child safety.

In our pursuit of positively transforming the social-emotional well-being of 100 million children annually by 2028, Committee for Children is looking for an experienced Bilingual (Spanish-English) Community Manager to join our Seattle-based team (The majority of our staff is currently working remotely throughout Washington State due to the COVID-19 pandemic).

Committee for Children is partnering with NurturePA, a community nonprofit that combines technology with volunteer mentors to help new moms access information and parenting support. Committee for Children is adapting this program in the greater Seattle area as we develop a plan to scale it nationwide.

As the Bilingual (Spanish-English) Community Manager, you will be responsible for building a community of volunteer mentor parents who will support new parents through the transition into parenthood. This role is for an exceptional community organizer who can work with our team to bring an innovative program to national scale.
The Bilingual (Spanish-English) Community Manager will help develop the community of volunteer mentor parents to better serve Spanish-speaking parents, a critical component of this innovative program. In addition, the Bilingual (Spanish-English) Community Manager will apply a diversity, equity, and inclusion lens to all aspects of their work.

This is a limited-term role (LTE) that is anticipated to last for 12 months and will be eligible for company benefits.

Primary Responsibilities

Building a Community of Volunteer Mentor Parents
• Expanding NurturePA’s portfolio of community partnerships to those serving both new and expecting Spanish-speaking parents (community or faith-based organizations, corporations, parent groups, etc.) across King County or other regions as project needs evolve
• Preparing translated, culturally relevant recruitment and training materials
• Promoting the volunteer mentor opportunity online through earned and paid advertising, social media, and thought leadership
• Screening mentor applicants, contacting references, creating mentor software accounts, and monitoring each applicant’s training process

Providing Support for Mentors
• Ensuring cultural relevancy and sensitivity of program materials and processes
• Ensuring that every mentor parent completes the training and is ready to meet the high standards of our program
• Expanding the library of online training materials by creating videos, podcasts, and assessment tools that make learning the program easy and fun for mentors
• Providing regular weekly and monthly support and coaching for assigned mentors

Managing the Mentor Parent Community
• Collaborating with the Community Outreach Manager to create online and in-person opportunities to support continued learning and connections across the mentor community (Interactions will depend on project needs and public health restrictions for the COVID-19 pandemic)
• Contributing to blog posts, articles, email campaigns, and social media to keep mentors updated on new developments in the program and community
• Developing new ways to appreciate and recognize mentors for their contributions to the community

Enrolling New Parents into the Program
• Creating member software accounts
• Matching new parents with mentors using our online system
• Maintaining the member enrollment and engagement database in support of program evaluation and growth
• Providing the first point of contact for new parents who have questions or concerns

Qualifications

Required

• Five years of community organizing experience, with experience in volunteer management preferred
• Verbal and written fluency in both English and Spanish (will be asked to complete a language proficiency test)
• Experience working with parents of young children
• Experience coordinating communication strategies and event schedules
• Excellent oral and written communication skills

Preferred

• Familiarity with faith-based organizations and community organizations serving Spanish-speaking first-time parents (expectant or new)
• Experience developing online training materials for adults
• Experience in family engagement and support
• Demonstrated success in building, sustaining, and retaining a highly qualified group of volunteers with diverse backgrounds and experiences

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

• Basic knowledge of and familiarity with using social media to promote, organize, and advertise programs and events
• Basic knowledge of email marketing platforms like Mailchimp
• Proficiency in Google Apps and Microsoft 365, with basic administrative skills
• Experience using presentation software such as PowerPoint, Keynote, or Google Slides
• Willingness to adopt a departmental culture that encourages diverse perspectives, prioritizes equitable work streams, and promotes inclusive conversations
• Ability to work both collaboratively and independently
