2012-2013 | NALAC serves as a consultant for the Jose Cuervo Tradicional Mural Project 

Jose Cuervo Trad Mural logoThe Jose Cuervo Tradicional Mural Project 2012 is a nationwide artistic contest with the opportunity for an artist to win a grand prize of $15,000 for the design and creation of a mural, as well as a $15,000 grant for a non-profit arts organization that supports the Latino community.  The National Association of Latino Arts and Cultures (NALAC) has been tapped as a consultant for the Jose Cuervo Tradicional Mural Project 2012 to increase visibility for the contest in the Latino arts community. As part of this arts consultancy, NALAC will work with Jose Cuervo across each phase of the program to engage Latino artists, communities and non-profit organizations. NALAC encourages artists and arts organizations to promote this contest to their friends, colleagues, patrons, and community.

Latino artists over the age of 21 that are residents of the following states- Arizona, Colorado, Florida, Georgia, Illinois, Nevada, New Mexico, New York, Pennsylvania, Texas and Washington state are eligible and encouraged to submit their applications by August 31, 2012. Artists need to submit a professional artwork portfolio and a 150 word statement- “how does your Hispanic heritage influence and contribute towards the contemporary expression of Latino arts and culture?”

NEW YORK – (April 17, 2013) – Chicana artist and San Antonio resident, Adriana Garcia, today was named the winner of the Jose Cuervo Tradicional Mural Project and its $15,000 grant. Jose Cuervo Tradicional – Mexico's No. 1 super-premium tequila with the same recipe used in Cuervo's original tequila in 1795 – will also award $15,000 to Centro Cultural Aztlan, a local non-profit organization that promotes the arts and culture in San Antonio, Texas.

 

“The Jose Cuervo Tradicional Mural Project uncovered some of the most talented Latino artists across the country,” said Ami-Lynn Bakshi, Vice President Marketing, Jose Cuervo. “Adriana’s mural beautifully portrayed the importance of Latino culture and heritage, and how it influences the face of the new America, which was one of our main goals for the Jose Cuervo Tradicional Mural Project.”

July 31, 2012- Phase One - Jose Cuervo Tradicional Mural Project Contest /Call for Artists Launches. NALAC is used as a consultant to help create guidelines and send the call for artists to its extensive Latino arts field network.

August 7, 2012- Event Launch to Promote Contest held at OpenHouse Gallery in New York, NY

August 31, 2012- Call for Artists Deadline

 

September 1-September 12, 2012- Judges (NALAC staff, Clifton Collins, and the Jose Cuervo Marketing Team review and select the top ten fnalists.

 

September 13, 2012- Ten Finalists are selected for the Second Phase of the Jose Cuervo Tradicional Mural Project. Event is held at the Book Bindery and Brick Building in Culver City, CA to introduce finalists.

November 8,2012- Event is held at Gallery 1028 in Chicago, IL to unveil the top ten finalists murals.

January 15, 2013-February 28,2013- Vote for Your Favorite Mural Launches via Facebook for the Jose Cuervo Tradicional Mural Project. This was the third and last part of the contest.

February 28, 2012- Voting for the Tradicional Mural Project via Facebook is Officially Closed. 

 

April 1, 2013- The Jose Cuervo Tradicional Winner is Announced.  The winner is Adriana M Garcia Representing Texas.  The Winning Artist will receive a $15,000 grant as well as a $15,000 donation to the organization they represent.

 

   

April 17, 2013- An event to announce the Grand Prize Winner Adriana M. Garcia is held at Centro Cultural Aztlan in San Antonio, TX. Both Adriana Garcia and Centro Cultural Aztlan each receive $15,000 Grant from Leading Tequila Brand.
