The Seventh annual Leadership Institute will be held this summer from July 22-28. Who should attend?Emerging leaders in the Latino arts field are invited to attend. Artists, cultural workers, community activistis, non profit arts administrators are among the 93 participants who have attended the Institute. Please note you must be a NALAC member to apply to the Leadership Institute. A press release, was recently made available by the U.S Citizenship and Immigration Services. Víctor Hernández Cruz se dio a conocer en los años setenta dentro del movimiento de poesía puertorriqueña en Nueva York. Cruz explora las normativas sintácticas y gramaticales del inglés y el español para crear su propio idioma bilingüe. Es autor de numerosos poemarios, y más recientemente, del libro The Mountain in the Sea.
Badge of Honor: The Project Philadelphia, PA  On April 26, 2007, Temple University's Tyler Community Arts Partnership Program, in collaboration with Centro Pedro Claver, The Lighthouse and Las Gallas artist collective, will open 'Badge of Honor: The Project,' an arts and education project connecting students, families, artists and community leadership working to break the cycle of incarceration. This project marks the first time in Philadelphia history that multiple organizations have come together to make a collective, multi-disciplinary statement on the severity of incarceration in the Latino community.
The exhibition will open to the public at 5:30pm at The Lighthouse, Inc. on 152 West Lehigh Avenue (corner of Mascher St.). The program will begin at 7:00 pm with a performance by Las Gallas. The exhibition will remain open from 12-6 pm on Tuesdays through Saturdays until June 8th, 2007.

The epic Mexican film The Other Conquest (La Otra Conquista) will receive a renewed and expanded theatrical release in North America May 4th,2007 by Union Station Media. The film is considered a cultural breakthrough for its profound exploration of the spiritual and psychological effects of colonization.
A boldly imaginative and deeply affecting story of faith and courage, The Other Conquest is written and directed by Salvador Carrasco and produced by Alvaro Domingo. Legendary tenor Plcido Domingo is executive producer and is featured on the soundtrack singing an aria composed especially for the movie. Professional artists residing in Bexar County are encouraged to apply for the upcoming Creative Capital Professional Development Retreat for visual and performing artists in San Antonio, June 15 - 17, 2007. The weekend-long training will teach artists the skills to strategically plan for and build their careers. The deadline to apply is April 30, 2007. There is no charge to apply or participate.

Request for Qualifications Macfarlane Park Mural

Site Description and Background: Macfarlane Park is located at 1700 North MacDill Ave in West Tampa, one block north of I-275. West Tampa is one of the oldest neighborhoods within the city limits, located just west of downtown Tampa, and according to the 2000 census, more than 50% of West Tampa residents are Hispanic.
Project Description: The Art Selection Committee is seeking an artist to create a mural on the east wall of the racquetball courts of the park, which is approximately 16’ high x 40’ long. The committee is seeking an artist to focus on the neighborhood’s history and diversity. There will be at least one community workshop.
