Saving Mural Agave Americana in Artesia, NM

save the mural

Artist Noel Marquez painted the mural Agave Americana in December of 1994 in Artesia, New Mexico it was on the outside of a racquetball court that was in a park, at the time, known as snake alley and in need of a make over. This mural removed the graphically graffitied  walls and added a little culture to an area forgetting its roots. Within a couple of months the park was transformed into something beautiful.  Now almost 16 years later the parks make over is almost complete. It started with a mural on the racquetball court and ended with a splash pad, skate park, and even a new name. With the park remodeled the Mayor of Artesia is deciding whether or not to keep the mural that started it all.  Help get the word out to protect this beautiful piece of cultural art. For almost 16 years it has been a part of Artesia.  Visit facebook at Save the mural for photos and information.
