Brooklyn Arts Exchange Seeks Performers and Groups for the 2009/10 Jumpin' Juniper Series for Family Audiences

Will consider dance, theater, music, puppetry, circus, and storytelling. Programs must be 45 - 50 minutes long and include interaction with a family audience. Performances take place on Sundays at 11:00 a.m. with a simple same day technical rehearsal. Modest stipend paid.  Full marketing, production and administrative support.

Grant Available for Arts in a taste of OUT in the Tropics Call for South Florida GLBT Performing Artists

FUNDarte is looking for gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender artists to perform at A Taste of Out in the Tropics showcase, a part of the Miami Beach Sleepless Night event, Saturday, November 7, 2009. This showcase will take place at the Colony Theatre on Lincoln Road.

Artists who work in theater, dance, music, spoken word or film (there will be video projection), and what you do addresses queer content in any way you choose to define it, are sought. FUNDarte is especially looking for work that is artistically adventurous and high quality, that tackles challenging issues of gender and sexual identity, contemporary social and political issues, or is just plain fun!  Artists’ sets must be in the 15-minute range with simple tech requirements so that a number of performers can be presented back to back.

Need-based Travel Assistance Available for the 2009 Conference for Community Arts Education

The National Endowment for the Arts has made a grant of $15,000 to underwrite lodging expenses of Guild member organizations attending the 2009 Conference for Community Arts Education in Minneapolis, November 11-14, 2009.

One representative per member organization may apply for up to two nights' complimentary stay at the Hyatt Regency Minneapolis.*

Because funds are limited, priority will be given to member organizations that would not otherwise be able to send a representative to the conference. Applications will be reviewed weekly on a rolling basis until funds are exhausted. Applicants are encouraged to submit their application early to ensure the best chances of funding. Screenwriting and Directing Workshops Aug 22- Sep 27 in Miami, FL

Created and taught by writer and filmmaker Harriette Yahr, these workshops cover the basics of screenwriting in Part 1, plus more advanced concepts in Part 2. A new Filmmaking/Directing Weekend Workshop will teach you everything you need to know to make a movie.

Screenwriting topics covered include: story structure, character, tone, dialogue, visual storytelling, and industry standard script formatting.  Will also touch on the business of screenwriting and the steps involved in moving your script into production. Part 2 will "Dig Deeper" and include a special event.

Filmmaking/Directing Workshop will cover: proper "Shooting Script" format. An overview of "Script Breakdown" and Budgeting/Scheduling. For the Director: Creating Storyboards, Shot Lists, determining "Coverage." Understanding shot choices, the language of Cinematography, working with your Art Director, Assistant Director, Wardrobe Stylists, Script Supervisor, and Editor.

Artist Residency Program in Austin, TX Through Aug 28

The Serie Print Project is accepting applications from May 1 - August 28, 2009.  The Serie Project accepts emerging and established professional artists who produce original works using any visual medium, are 18 years or older, and not currently enrolled in an educational institution.  A Master Printer is provided to guide resident artists through the printmaking process, so knowledge of serigraphy is not required for eligibility.  The Serie Project focuses on Latino artists but is not exclusive.

Each accepted artist can select a one- or a two-week residency to produce one design and create up to 50 serigraph prints, plus additional proofs, half of which the artist will keep. The Serie Project provides accommodations for resident artists, but cannot pay for travel expenses. Printing will take place at Coronado Studio in Austin, Texas, between January and July, 2010.

Scriptwriting Contest Deadline Aug 28


The National Latino Media Council is accepting applications for a scriptwriting contest that will be read by network television executives. The winning scripts could ultimately end up as the basis for a show.

Writers selected based on their applications will spend Nov. 7 through Dec. 12 in Los Angeles, where they will be expected to complete at least one script.

Participants will earn $250 per week and travel, housing and meals will be provided.

Writers must fill out a program application and send in a biography, one writing sample in electronic and print versions, notarized release forms and one paragraph explaining you want to write for television. Scripts must be in English and writing teams are not allowed.

Aesthetica is looking for entries to the 2009 International Aesthetica Creative Works Competition. It’s a great opportunity to bring artist's work to a wider audience. The Aesthetica Creative Works Competition seeks entries of Artwork, Photography & Sculpture, Fiction and Poetry. Three winners will be awarded £500 each. All finalists will be published in the Aesthetica Creative Works Annual, in stores December 2009. Entry to the 2009 Aesthetica Creative Works Competition is £10. Texas Filmmakers Travel Grant Deadline Aug 31

Each year, more and more Texas filmmakers are showing their work at major festivals like Sundance, Cannes, Toronto, Los Angeles, Tribeca, Slamdance and many others. But, these invitations usually come when filmmakers have exhausted their finances just getting their films finished. So, the Austin Film Society will set aside $10,000 annually from the funds raised for the Texas Filmmakers Production Fund to establish a travel grant program for Texas filmmakers on a rolling, year-round basis.

The program is intended to help offset travel costs for Texans whose work is invited to prestigious film festivals and events around the world. Eligibility is based on the festival or event that the film has been invited to, not on the film itself. The Keyholder Residency Program Deadline Sep 1

The Keyholder Residency Program offers emerging artists free 24-hour access to printmaking facilities to develop new work and foster their artistic careers. Residencies are free and one year long, starting on April 1st and October 1st each year. Keyholders work independently, in a productive atmosphere alongside other contemporary artists. Artists from all disciplines are eligible to apply; print-making skills are not required, but some familiarity with the medium is recommended. Basic instruction in printmaking techniques is available for new Keyholders. Technical assistance is not included in the program, but is available at additional cost. Participation is limited and competitive. Applications are evaluated by a rotating committee of artists, critics, curators, and art professionals based on the quality of submitted artwork. Bronx Council of the Art's 2009-2010 NYSCA/BCA Community Arts Grants Deadline Sep 18

This New York State Council on the Arts decentralization grant provides direct support for arts and cultural projects developed and/or sponsored by Bronx Arts Organizations and Community-Based Organizations. These activities may include workshops/classes, performances, arts exhibitions, special one-day events, multi-discipline collaborations, and public access programming whose central focus is the arts. Examples of the types of costs covered by this grant include but are not limited to: artist fees, supplies, equipment rental, marketing and publicity costs related to the specific activity. Individual artists can apply through an organizational conduit based in the County. All activities must serve County residence and open to the general public. ArtEcolÓgiko EcoPoÉtiko 2009 Poetry-Drawing Contest for Children of Poetic Genius in Houston, TX Deadline Sep 18

Using the King allegory described at http://www.tbhcenter.com/story.php?sid=178 , children living in Houston are invited to apply their poetic genius by creating a healing artwork as remedy for a dying King. To stir their artistic imagination, TBH will release short videos every week to give them glimpses of the King’s condition and his subjects concerned reactions. Participants will even meet the actual Queen and King during the ArtEcológiko EcoPoétiko Reception organized to acknowledge their creativity on October 17th.

The winners will be recognized at TBH’s ¿Dónde jugarán los niños? Kick Off Concert on October 18th, 2009 at the Outdoor Miller Theater and earn Pachamama prizes as well as publication on www.PlanetaVerdeNow.com and TBH’s campaign posters. EZ Arts Access Grant in West Virginia Deadline Oct 1

EZ Arts Access is a funding program designed to create an easy access point into funding for small communities and organizations with small budgets. EZ Arts Access can also serve non-arts organizations with arts projects. This is a simplified application process with the opportunity for application two times per year, allowing for special opportunities that occur after the West Virginia Commission on the Arts (WVCA) early deadlines have passed. This program encourages new applicants and smaller
organizations and communities to plan and present public arts experiences.

Deadline: Oct 1 for projects occuring between Jan 1 & Jun 30.

Eligibility: Non-profit WV organizations providing arts experiences in the community. Funding is limited to organizations with

Once again BECA Foundation will be enlisting the input of art enthusiasts from around the world via an online juried event which allows anyone from anywhere in the world with an internet connection and email access to select their favorite 10 artists from the compiled selection of submitted works. On October 14 and 15, 2009 art enthusiasts from around the world will view the works submitted by artists from all corners of the globe and will vote to choose their favorite 10 artists of CURATE THIS! 2009. This year's CURATE THIS! exhibition is being held in conjunction with PhotoNOLA 2009 (www.photonola.org). Dia de los Muertos Call for Artists in Long Beach, CA Deadline Oct 4

 2nd City Council Art Gallery + Performance Space (2cc) is honored to participate in a traditional neighborhood celebration of Dia de los Muertos.  Each year, the neighbors’ apartment complex and beautiful courtyard becomes a magical place where altars, candlelight, marigolds, dancing and live music fills the air.  The gallery hosts a Dia de los Muertos exhibition and the garden is transformed with altars, calacas, art workshops and delicious food. The two spaces are linked by gates that open wide to encourage an exchange of culture, art, tradition and friendship.

The 2010 Mentoring Program Application Deadline Oct 13 for Immigrant Artists in New York, New Jersey and Connecticut

The Mentoring Program for Immigrant Artists pairs foreign-born artists with 2009 New York Foundation for the Arts Fellows who act as their mentors for a period of six months, beginning in Janaury 2010, to assist them in gaining broader access to the New York art world. mentors also help their mentees achieve a specific goal, such as writing an artist statement, creating a marketing brochure, or completing a grant application. The goal is to help immigrant artists acquire some of the skills necessary to fairly compete and ultimately succeed as artists.The program is now entering its third year. 10-15 immigrant artists will be matched with NYFA Fellows, based on shared artistic discipline and common language and cultural background when possible. This is a selective program that is free of charge to accepted participants.

$7,000 Fellowships for New York State Artists

Artists' Fellowships are $7,000 cash awards made to individual originating artists living and working in the state of New York for unrestricted use. Grants are awarded in 16 artistic disciplines, with applications accepted in eight categories each year.

The application for NYFA's 2010 Artists' Fellowships is only available online and will be posted during early September 2009.

Artist Minigrant Program in Mississippi Deadline Nov 2

The Artist Minigrant Program provides grants of up to $500 to support the professional development of individual artists by helping to fund: travel and registration for appropriate conferences; promotional efforts (such as printed invitations for a gallery opening); or artistic supplies (such as paint, film, or clay). Artist Minigrants are competitive and do not require a cash match.

Mini Grant for Travel in West Virginia

The Mini Grant Program of the West virginia Commission on the Arts (WVCA) is designed for individual schools, non-profit community arts organizations or other non-profit sponsors that do not present a season of events.  Applications must be TYPED , received at least six weeks prior to the start date of the project, and include artist contracts and resumes. the Mini Grant program supports the presentation of WEST VIRGINIA ARTISTS ONLY.

Applicants may request 50% of the contract fee and travel expenses not to exceed $1000 per fiscal year to assist with the presentation of West virginia artists in performances, workshops and other projects. The Mini
Grant program has limited funds that are available on a first-come, first-served basis. The grant pool is replenished each July 1st. Early application is advised. Only one Mini Grant, for a single performance, will be
awarded per applicant per fiscal year (July 1st - June 30th). Perugia Press publishes one collection of poetry each year, by a woman at the beginning of her publishing career. Our mission is to produce beautiful books that interest long-time readers of poetry and welcome those new to poetry. We also aim to celebrate and promote poetry whenever we can.

Folk Arts Grant Wyoming Arts Council

Folk and traditional arts express a community or group's way of life and shared cultural heritage. Community groups include family, tribal, ethnic, regional, occupational or religious. Traditional artistic skills (music, craft, dance or other) are passed on through observation and imitation, rather than by formal training. Project grants - maximum request is $1,500. Festival grants - maximum request is $2,500. Contact the program specialist before making application. Submit applications at least six weeks before the project or festival date.

Hot Iron Press Visiting Artist Program 

The Hot Iron Press Visiting Artist Program grants artists from outside New Orleans the opportunity to introduce printmaking processes into their body of work while interacting with the city’s art communities. Artists working in any discipline or media are welcome. Over a period of up to two weeks, residents will produce an edition of works using screenprinting, relief, or letterpress printing; the program culminates with an exhibition and lecture at the artist-run The Front (http://www.nolafront.org/). Selected artists will receive a stipend to cover airfare, food, transportation, accommodations, and materials, and all residents have free access to on-site facilities and technical assistance. To apply, submit by email or post a written proposal, résumé, 10-20 previous work samples, and any visuals related to the proposed project such as diagrams, sketches, photographs, and mock-ups.

Local Community Programs Supported by Bank of America Charitable Foundation: Local Grantmaking

The Bank of America Charitable Foundation works to create neighborhood excellence in the communities served by the bank in the United States, Canada, and the United Kingdom. While local community priorities determine how funding is allocated, grants typically fall into four main categories: Community Development, Education, Health and Human Services, and Arts and Culture. Each of the company's markets, in partnership with local community leaders, sets specific target areas of interest within these major categories. There are no deadlines for grant applications. RFQ from the City of San Antonio

Through this Request for Qualifications, (RFQ), the City of San Antonio’s Department of Community Initiatives (City) seeks qualified firms, artists, consultants, academic institutions, non-profit organizations, public policy research institutions, etc. to provide professional and personal consulting services. The City will use responses from qualified respondents to compile a vendor list which will be maintained for use by the City to enter into Professional Services Contracts on an “as needed” or “as requested” basis. Contracts through this RFQ could begin anytime after issue of this RFQ and upon receipt of acceptable Qualifications from a respondent. There is no deadline for application submission, however, as needs are identified, contracts will be awarded. Therefore a respondent, who submits early in the process, will be afforded a greater opportunity to contract with the City.

The City will contract with selected consultants to provide services in the following categories: Artistic Services; Planning; Research and Development; Staff/Volunteer Training; Volunteer Income Tax Assistance site operations; and Direct Professional Services. A list of services anticipated to be required is included in RFQ Attachment D - Matrix of Services Offered.

Sweet Tooth of the Tiger will coordinate the bake sale with a gallery opening, book launch, film screening, or other arts event, supply the table, and interview the artist during the sale for a later post to the Sweet Tooth blog. Artists pocket all money raised at the sale, to fund a particular project of interest, except for a small percentage donated to the residency to sustain the program. Wanted Photographs "A year in the life of New Mexico"

"A year in the life of New Mexico" is looking for people to take photos in all parts of the state for a high quality book to be published by Rick Carver, a retired photo journalist who lives in Santa Fe. All proceeds will go to the Esperanza Shelter. This is a great opportunity for artists to get their work published. American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009 Grants in Kansas

Applications are accepted beginning July 1, 2009, at 8:30 am. The Kansas Arts Commission, through the federal American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009, will provide one-time financial assistance to most nonprofit, tax-exempt charitable 501(c)3 arts and cultural organizations or governmental arts and cultural entities eligible for Fiscal Year 2009 and/or Fiscal Year 2010 KAC Operational Support Grants.

These special, one-time grants must be used for: salary support, full or partial, for one or more positions that are critical to an organization’s artistic mission and that are in jeopardy or have been eliminated as a result of the current economic climate and/or fees for previously engaged artists and/or contractual personnel to maintain or expand the period during which such persons would be engaged. Development (fundraising) positions are not eligible for support through this program or any other federal program. If funds are requested for a position that includes development activities, pro-rate the percentage of salary spent on development and exclude that amount from the request.

RFQ: Public Art Opportunity Winston-Salem, NC  

The Arts Council of Winston-Salem and Forsyth County has begun a renovation and enlargement of the historic Sawtooth Building in downtown Winston-Salem, NC. Construction should be completed by fall 2010.The Arts Council is seeking professional artists or teams of artists nationwide to submit qualifications for two public art projects. The Main Entrance lobby and the HanesBrand Theater lobby wall are the selected sites for artwork. A budget of up to $100,000 is available to fund both projects. New England States Touring Support for Organizations and Artists

New England States Touring (NEST) provides support to nonprofits for performances, readings, and related community activities by artists that have met the eligibility criteria for the NEST program. Performing and literary artists eligible for NEST represent a wide range of disciplines, such as music, dance, opera, musical theater, poetry, writing, interdisciplinary work, and folk arts. Nonprofit presenters* may apply for NEST funding to help support an engagement by a NEST-eligible artist, as long as that artist is based outside of the presenter’s home state.  A "presenter" may be any nonprofit organization that is interested in bringing cultural arts programming to its community. Libraries, schools, theaters, service agencies, and arts organizations are all examples of eligible nonprofits that can apply for NEST funding.

NEST grants are available in amounts of up to 50% of the artists' fees inclusive of honoraria, travel, and per diem. Minimum grants are $200 and applications with requests below that amount will not be accepted. Grant awards are typically between $200 and $3,000. Short Term Artists Residency (S.T.A.R.) Program

The S.T.A.R. program provides funding for Illinois non-profit organizations to work with professional artists from Illinois to develop and implement residency programs that bring arts activities into their community. This program emphasizes the interaction between professional artists and the public through hands-on participatory experiences. Each residency lasts from 5 to 30 hours.

Economic Response Technical Assistance

In their continuing effort to support and promote the arts in the South, the Southern Arts Federation (SAF) with support from the National Endowment for the Arts is offering a limited number of Economic Response Technical Assistance grants for non-profit presenting organizations in our nine-state region. In response to the current economic climate, this special initiative encourages visual, media, performing, and literary arts presenting organizations to contract with an outside consultant for intensive work to focus on organizational stabilization and to strengthen an organization’s infrastructure.
