National Endowment for the Arts Announces Recovery Grants to State and Regional Arts Agencies The National Endowment for the Arts announced $19.8 million in one-time grants under the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009 (Recovery Act) to the state arts agencies and regional arts organizations to support the arts sector of the economy. The Texas Commission on the Arts Receives $50 Million Dollars from the NEA
The National Endowment for the Arts (NEA) was given $50 million dollars to distribute to help preserve jobs in the nonprofit arts sector. These dollars are exclusively for existing jobs, employee fringe benefits, and contract positions that are in peril. Development and fundraising jobs are not eligible. Alfredo Arreguin’s painting, The Return to Aztlan is now on view at the Smithsonian National Museum of American Art in Washington DC 
The painting, The Return to Aztlan, by artist Alfredo Arreguin is being displayed at the Gallery of Justice of the Smithsonian National Museum of American Art. The “American Search for Justice” installation is part of the presentation of the permanent collection galleries devoted to twentieth and twenty-first century American history.

Bronx Council on the Arts Executive Director Bill Aguado Receives The Skowhegan 2009 Governors Award for Outstanding Service to ArtistsThe Skowhegan School of Painting & Sculpture announced that Bill Aguado, Executive Director of the Bronx Council on the Arts, will be among five honorees being recognized as art-world leaders for their outstanding accomplishments, patronage, and service to the arts. Cited as a major advocate for the arts, Aguado will receive the Governors Award for Outstanding Service to Artists at the 38th annual Skowhegan Awards Dinner on April 28, 2009, at Cipriani Wall Street in New York City. Teatro Visión Announces New Executive Director The board of directors of Teatro Visión, the West Coast’s largest professional Chicano/Latino theater company, announced that Jess Moreles has been named as its new Executive Director. The company’s founding Executive Director, Raul Lozano, leaves Teatro Visión after 17 years effective June of 2009.
Mr. Moreles has already assumed all Executive Director duties since March and joins Elisa Marina Alvarado, the company’s founding Artistic Director, as the leadership team of the 25 year-old company. Together they will continue Teatro Visión’s commitment to providing professional theatrical productions, educational and outreach programs and advocacy for the diverse communities the company serves. NFA Funded Documentary Gets a Night in the Spotlight
Fort Worth filmmakers Avisael Hernandez and Logan Gilpin’s film “The Rose; A Sense of Place”, a 30 documentary that received initial funds from NALAC, will be broadcast on KERA public television in Dallas, TX on May 4 at 9:30 PM, central time. The documentary focuses on the Rose Marine Theater’s neighborhood. Through interviews and historical references, the documentary builds the connections of the predominantly Hispanic neighborhood to the theater and Fort Worth at large.

The Department of Arts and Humanities at the University of Houston-Downtown seeks a tenure-track person as assistant professor of Drama with an emphasis in theater history and knowledge of dramatic criticism. Requirements: Ph.D. in Theater History, although ABD's will be considered for a one-year terminal appointment as an Instructor with conversion to tenure track Assistant Professor if all requirements for the Ph.D. have been successfully completed by December 2009; courses in Dramatic Criticism. Responsibilities: Teach a combination of four lower and/or upper-level theater courses of 30 students max per class each long semester. Possible areas include: ancient to modern world theater; contemporary theater styles; American theater history; Hispanic theater history; musical theater history; candidate's specialty area of theater history; history of dramatic criticism; contemporary theater criticism; and dramaturgy. Will also teach introductory course in theater appreciation. The awarding of tenure requires an established record of service to the department, the university and the profession. Continued evidence of significant scholarly development and achievement is expected.
