Fellowship on Urban Environmental Justice at USC Deadline Mar 23USC Annenberg's Institute for Justice and Journalism (IJJ) invites ethnic media journalists nationwide to apply for the 2009 fellowships on urban environmental justice. Selected Fellows will participate in a weeklong conference in Los Angeles, starting April 30, that will include varied field reporting experiences. A follow-up session for the Fellows will take place in late July in Chicago. All expenses are covered by IJJ.
Applicants must be employed by ethnic media news organizations or be independent journalists who regularly cover ethnic communities in the U.S. or racial justice issues.

Music Center Performing Arts Center of Los Angeles County Request for Submissions Deadline Mar 30 The Music Center is looking for story submissions about human and immigration rights from the public for their annual program “LA Storytellers”. This year’s theme is “Journeys Toward Justice: Capturing the Stories of Human Rights in the Context of Migration.” The selected stories will be displayed at an open house public event in May. Life stories will be accepted in all languages and can be submitted in writing, audio, video or by photo essay. Submissions are due March 30th.

Call for Artist King County, WA Deadline Apr 1 4Culture and the King County Department of Transportation are seeking an artist living in Washington or Oregon to work collaboratively with the Bridge Unit to create a Bridge Design Manual describing a kit of parts for application in County-wide short span bridge replacement projects. S/he will design parts that can be used in various configurations over many years and on many bridges, resulting in a signature experience within King County's network of roads and bridges. The project budget is $50,000 inclusive of artist residency meeting time, conceptual and schematic level design work, documentation, presentations, and travel. The Sherwood Anderson Foundation Fiction Award Deadline Apr 1 The Sherwood Anderson Foundation has been helping developing writers since 1988 in order to honor, preserve, and celebrate the memory and literary work of Sherwood Anderson, American realist of the first half of the twentieth century. Applications must arrive postmarked no later than April 1 of each year. The winner will be announced the following September 1 on the foundationps web site. Studio Residency - Request For Proposals Deadline Apr 1 Women's Studio Workshop offers a six- to eight-week residency for an artist working in printmaking, papermaking, photography, book arts, or ceramics. This residency supports the creation of a new body of work in one of WSW's studio disciplines. The grant includes a $2,000 to $3,000 artist's stipend, a $700 materials budget, a travel stipend, housing, and unlimited studio use. The artist will be provided with technical advice and assistance in production. WSW welcomes applications from artists in all stages of their careers. This Request for Proposal is a two-step juried process, working with outside funding sources. WSW selects the artist, then sends their work to appropriate funders for final approval. Residency Program at Island of Itaparica, Brazil Deadline Apr 10 Instituto Sacatar operates a residency program for creative individuals in all disciplines at its estate on the Island of Itaparica in the Bay of All Saints, across from the city of Salvador, Bahia, Brazil. The Instituto Sacatar provides unstructured time and space for creative individuals to develop new work. Residencies last from six to twelve weeks, with most scheduled for eight weeks. On occasion, the Instituto Sacatar hosts Special Projects, which may be of shorter duration. Digital Fine Arts Museum Call for Artists Deadline Apr 10 Open to artists worldwide. 2-D media only, and those works created digitally or substantially modified and digitally enhanced will be given preference. A.R.T. Gallery Deadline Apr 16 The A.R.T. (Artists in Treatment and Recovery) Gallery recognizes the talent of people who live with mental illness and the role that creative outlets like art can play in the recovery process. The project features artwork by people who receive treatment through the Zepf Center by displaying the pieces in the Central Avenue location.

BAX Artist in Residence Dance Deadline Apr 24 BAX announces applications and guidelines are now available for the 2009/10 Artist in Residence DANCE application. Applications are due in the office (not postmarked) no later than Apr 24 at 5PM. Four exceptional artists are provided with an artistic home base for a one-two year period giving them a tangible sense of permanence and place. Resident artists have the use of four spaces suitable for theater, dance and performance work and are offered up to 200 hours of free rehearsal space, a stipend, formal presentations of new works and works in progress, and administrative and technical support.

Research Support William T. Grant Foundation Deadline May 12 The William T. Grant Foundation has a longstanding interest in supporting research that can inform policy and practice, particularly focused youth ages 8 to 25 in the US. There are significant gaps between research and policy, and between research and practice. At the Foundation, we believe studies of this topic will increase our understanding of how to improve the production and subsequent use of research for and in policy and practice.
For the next several years, we anticipate supporting a group of research projects, with award amounts ranging from $100,000 to $600,000, covering direct and indirect costs for two to three years of work. Sharadin Art Gallery Residency in Pennsylvania Deadline Jun 12 Accepting proposals from artists, craftspersons and designers for the production of a temporary, site-specific installation for The Sharadin Gallery exhibition space. The residency will occur January 11-29, 2010, and the artwork will remain on view from January 29 – March 5. The selected artist (or artist team) will be awarded $10,000. 12x12x1222 Summer Show in New Orleans BECA gallery's 2009 Summer Show titled 12x12x122 is an experimental, gallery packed show of 488 unframed works on canvas sized 12x12 inches (30.5 cm x30.5 cm) at a stretcher depth of no more than 1.5 inches. Works need not be flat but all of it must be secure on the canvas and not extend beyond the 12x12 inches (30.5 cm x30.5 cm) size.The first 122 artists to enter will have their works exhibited (according to guidelines - actual work will not be accepted for delivery until the end of May). Rhino in the Room Film Festival Call for Submissions Rhino in the Room Film Festival is a visual space for artists to express and highlight experiences relating to queer issues. This festival will showcase the incredible diversity of queer issues and artists working in Canada and internationally. We encourage all independent, D.I.Y, no/low budget filmmakers, students, professionals, film enthusiasts and those who just love film and queers to submit shorts or full feature experimental, narrative, visual poetry, documentary, live action, claymation, stop motion…and anything else we might have left out.

Economic Response Technical Assistance In our continuing effort to support and promote the arts in the South, the Southern Arts Federation (SAF) with support from the National Endowment for the Arts is offering a limited number of Economic Response Technical Assistance grants for non-profit presenting organizations in our nine-state region. In response to the current economic climate, this special initiative encourages visual, media, performing, and literary arts presenting organizations to contract with an outside consultant for intensive work to focus on organizational stabilization and to strengthen an organization’s infrastructure.
