The TRPI 5th Annual Education Conference in Long Beach, CA Oct 31
Policies, Programs, and Practices: Latino Education for a New Era Friday, October 31, 2008 The Long Beach Convention Center Long Beach, California
Education is a central benchmark for our nation’s ability to sustain domestic and international competitiveness. Past and recent studies, however, consistently demonstrate a gap in educational achievement by Latinos in the United States. Despite concerted efforts since the 1960’s in school reform, teacher training, curriculum improvement and parental involvement, the educational achievement alarm rings even louder today. The pending change in the political and social landscape summons all of us to extend beyond entrenched organizational and institutional rhetoric. We must engage in policies and practices to expand and strengthen the social network of resources needed to improve Latino education in this era of change.
