Labored Landscapes #2,  The Inverted Andes

Daniela Rivera

To support “The Inverted Andes,” two site-specific pieces that will transform the exhibition space at the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston, March 2017. These pieces embody the transformation of the landscape produced by the terraforming practices of copper extraction in Chuquicamata, Chile. The idea of landscape and labor as a background for the construction of cultural identity are at the center of this project. A 20’x37’ wall will be cut and tilted towards the center of the exhibition space. A monumental copper drawing will be directly drawn with the help of 5 assistants. A 25’ structure will be built that tilts towards another wall supporting five paintings.
